Position Summary:

The HIM Analyst is responsible for development, support, and implementation of HIM applications. The HIM Analyst analyzes system requirements, operational needs, work flows, and available automation solutions. Performs quality assurance and maintains data in HIM applications including the transcription, coding and EHR (electronic health record) systems. The HIM Analyst participates in activities to improve outcomes for the integrity of the EHR. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Essential Functions:

The HIM Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Provides support and maintenance of data in HIM applications and EHR systems

* Works with Information Technology to implement application enhancements and upgrades, performs testing, and provides guidance to the HIM department through the application life cycle

* Provides support to Information Technology and vendors involved in the deployment and installation of applications as projects move from design and planning to operational status and functions as a team member in all development and implementation efforts

* Works as part of the planning and operations team to develop and maintain system and data integrity standards

* Provides transcription support including editing transcribed reports, working pending report and error queues, as well as assisting providers and HIM staff with dictation and transcription related needs

* Assists with patient identity management

* Retrieves data from patient records and other sources for internal and external audits, research and special projects

* Participates in the continuous quality and process improvement programs within the department and organization

Accountability:

The HIM Analyst reports to the HIM Manager.

Qualifications:

* High School Diploma and 5 years of relevant experience; or

* RHIA, RHIT or CHDS is preferred

* Advanced knowledge and previous work experience with using and supporting HIM applications and EHR systems

* Ability to interpret technical and medical jargon and translate abbreviations into their expanded forms

* Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission standards, and other healthcare regulatory bodies

* Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences

* Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision and as part of a team and to adapt quickly to new technologies

* Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal/written).
