NYC Shelters-Entitlement Specialist -PIPELINE

  • Coordination and Management of the application process for SSI/SSD, Public Assistance, mental health housing through the HRA 2010E, Medicaid, Medication Grant Program and other appropriate entitlement/ benefits.
  • Tracking of applications to determine outcomes and the review and appeal of any denials.
  • Coordinating efforts with the New York State Office of Temporary Disability Assistance, the Social Security Office and Human Resources Administration.
  • Collaborate with the social service staff to expedite entitlement approvals for all clients.
  • Escort clients to the Social Security, Human Administration office and other entitlement entities, and act as their liaison when required.
  • Advocate for clients and attempt to reverse PA sanctions, denials, etc.
  • Meet with all new and current clients to determine entitlement eligibility.
  • Attend weekly case conference meetings to discuss client updates.
  • Maintain a current spreadsheet of all clients seen, and their status.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Social/Human Services field
  • Minimum two years experience working to obtain benefits for people with severe and persistent mental illness, ex-offenders, and/or people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • Excellent interviewing and clinical assessment skills
  • Team oriented, self starter
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Comfortable working in a shelter environment
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License desirable
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
