Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent in this position is anticipated to work an average of 24 hours per week.

  1. Performs a variety of standard laboratory tests and waived laboratory procedures according to established protocols, to include, but not limited to:
    1. Routine venipuncture for tests to be completed at commercial labs
    2. Routine cappilary collection for in-house testing, such as glucose, hemoglobin, and PT/INR testing
    3. Performance and interpretation of pregnancy and Strep A antigen tests
    4. Use of blood/urine analyzers for chemical tests
    5. Examination of stool samples for occult blood
  2. Assists Medical Lab Manager to ensure quality control and assurance of all laboratory procedures utilizing OSHA, CLIA, State, and SCHD standards.
    1. Assists in orientation and training of new and existing laboratory and health support technicians, ensuring good technique while complying with OSHA regulations.
    2. Assists in preparing and validating of laboratory results according to recommended standards. Files, stores, and maintains lab reports for the mandated time periods.
    3. Supports laboratory services for other SCHD satellite clinics.
    4. Assists in ensuring the cleaning, maintenance and repair as needed, of all laboratory equipment.
    5. Assist with QA compliance records
    6. Assists with lab related questions and the responsibility of lab manager when the manger is off
  3. Assists in conducting laboratory research activities involving analysis/evaluation of data for new laboratory procedures.
  4. Prepares patients for ther medical visit, and assists with clinic flow.
    1. Greets patients for lab or medical appointment.
    2. Completes vital signs and prepares patient for their medical visit.
    3. Documents in the electronic health record.
    4. Escorts patient to the examination room and assists provider as needed.
  5. Attend and participates in staff development, such as staff meetings, and continuing education activities to increase knowledge and maintain skills and licensure. Performs related work as required with adjustable scheduling and other duties as required.
  6. Routine clerical support functions
    1. Monitor the admission processes to ensure timely management of patient flow. Assists clerical personnel as needed when backed up or overflow
    2. Update the computer database with the current demographic and personal information and insurance information, including Consent for Treatment, HIPPA forms, Drivers License, Social Security card. Verifies all demographic and insurance information before securing appointment slot
  7. Other Duties
    1. Submits timesheets in Peoples First timely each pay period
    2. Enters EARS into the HMS system timely
    3. Reads and utilizes e-mail daily to ensure proper communication between supervisor and co-workers on work related issues
    4. Participates in unit Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure quality assurance of primary care services
    5. Attends and participates in unit, division, and agency staff meetings

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of the physical and natural sciences
  • Knowledge of the procedures, equipment and material used in laboratory testing and analysis
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic
  • Skill in the use of laboratory equipment and materials
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collect, record and analyze laboratory data
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to laboratory testing and analysis

Qualifications:

Preferred

  • One to three years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant
  • Training as a phlebotomist or laboratory technician
  • Experience processing, preparing, and packaging laboratory specimens for transport
  • Experience using electronic health records
