Job Title: Quality Specialist II

Shift: 2nd shift; 3pm - 11pm

Minimum Starting Hourly Rate: $17.70 with a $.60 night shift premium


Perform quality inspection of Caterpillar machine components and machines. Emphasis is on assembly and paint process inspection. Apply Caterpillar engineering drawings, specifications, and standards to judge conformance of NLR products.


* Conduct quality inspection of painted components, sub-assembled machine components, and partially or fully assembled Caterpillar machines.

* Inspect components and machines for correct assembly, proper dimensions, appearance, structural integrity, and other specification requirements.

* Measure component dimensions and interpret results for conformance versus drawing requirements.

* Communicate inspection results to operations department colleagues. Provide feedback in a constructive and diplomatic manner.

* Create detailed records of defects with part numbers, written descriptions, and photographs documented in the Caterpillar All Quality Events (AQE) database. Contribute to investigation of cause and identification of corrective action for quality issues.


* At least one year of experience is required in one of the following areas: Quality Inspection, Welding and Fabrication, Machining, Assembly, Paint, or Logistics.


* Additional work experience, particularly in a manufacturing quality role, is highly desirable.

* Experience reading engineering drawings and Cat 1E specifications is highly desirable. Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance is also desirable.

* Computer literacy with proficiency in MES, AQE, and Microsoft Excel is highly desirable. Ability to use visview software to open and view CAD models of Caterpillar machines assemblies is highly desirable. Experience using online Caterpillar drawings (in EPIX or HVC) and 1E Specifications (in REDI) also highly desirable.

* Experience in use of manual measurement devices (calipers, gauges, micrometers) highly desirable.

* Understanding and experience with the root cause and corrective action (RCCA) or 8D issue resolution process is highly desirable.

* Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with coworkers and customers
