The beautiful new Canopy by Hilton in Bethesda North is looking for an exceptional candidate as its new Accounting Enthusiast.

Job Summary

Based in the PM Hotel Group's North Bethesda office, this position is responsible for the accurate financial and administrative services. This position will assist with all aspects of accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general cashier, income audit, and accounting administration.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

* Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches discrepancies, and approves for payment.

* Investigates problems that vendors or purchasing agents have with obtaining payment for bills.

* Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, freight charges, rentals, and similar items

* Prepares vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and reviews for accuracy

* Reconciles general ledger accounts with various registers

* Monitors accounts payable and receivable to ensure that payments are up to date

* Reconciles report discrepancies and problems

* Codes data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures

* Reviews, balances, and interprets computer reports, and makes corrections

* Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services

* Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding financial and payroll records

* Prepares Direct Bill applications for approval

* Performs Accounts Receivable Functions

* Prepares daily cash deposits

* Monitor payment requirements on groups or functions and process deposits

* Process returned checks and credit card charge-backs

* Works closely with Sales and Events team to verify group method of payment and deposits are on file.

Abilities Required

Bachelor's degree preferably in finance, accounting, business or equivalent work experience

* Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

* Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintaining general ledgers

* Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial files

* Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information

* Requires good written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to control a high workload volume with organization

* Requires a high level of accuracy and detail

* Ability to work with numbers

* Ability to work independently with little supervision within a team environment while completing deadlines

* Strong problem solving skills and making rational decisions

* As an Accounting Enthusiast, must be friendly, energizing, positive and caring in all core aspects of the Canopy culture as defined.

* Previous accounting experience preferred

* Highly organized and result oriented with the ability to be flexible with hours, days off, assignments and additional duties

* Must work well under pressure in a fast paced environment and handle conflicting priorities

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word)

* Strong Financial and Math Skills – fundamental understanding of accounting theory

* Physical Aspects of Position (includes but are not limited to):

* Sitting for long periods of time

* Periodic walking and standing throughout shift

* Occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
