Real Estate Coordinator

The City of Norfolk's Department of General Services, Real Estate Division is seeking to hire a knowledgeable and results-oriented Real Estate Coordinator. Work involves managing the use, lease, and sale of City owned property, purchasing properties for City use and future development, reviewing the use of current property, and making recommendations.

Essential Functions

Department Hiring Salary Range: $44,339 - $50,989

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

* Manages the use, lease and sale of City owned property to maximize its value. Purchases properties for city use and future development, reviews the use of current property, and makes recommendations.

* Purchases and sells property by negotiating a contract with the property owner or buyer, preparing contracts, and coordinating funding.

* Reviews the use of current City owed property by checking the value of adjacent or similar property, reviewing the property status and recommended use, preparing council letters and docket schedule, and coordinating the preparation of ordinances.

* Makes recommendations to various City departments regarding real estate values and permitted uses.

* Negotiates, reviews, and prepares leases of City and privately owned properties. Request ordinances, prepares council letter and submits for City Council docket.

* Attends City Council meetings and addresses questions from Council members and the public regarding real estate matters.


Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Five years of experience is required.

Valid Driver's License required.

Current Virginia Real Estate License preferred.

Additional Information & Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the demonstrated ability to effectively write and execute a real property contract.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
