Among its many responsibilities, the Office of University Relations develops institutional content that communicates the value of Salve Regina University among its various constituent groups. The Writer/Content Strategist plays an integral role in the planning, development, implementation and assessment of the University's strategic communications initiatives, continuously identifying ways to enhance integrated marketing communication (ICM) strategies and performance through branded content.
The Writer/Content Strategist will write copy and create content for distribution through internal and external communication methods including, but not limited to, websites, email newsletters, collateral materials, media and the University's magazine, Report from Newport.
The Writer/Content Strategist will contribute to, and assist in the implementation of internal and external communication plans, policies, and procedures; Facilitate and encourage use of branding and style guides, create design best practices; and participate in the governance of the Salve.edu website and other communications initiatives to enhance the image of Salve Regina locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with cross-functional teams to communicate messaging, value, positioning, and brand promise consistently throughout all programs for assigned projects and initiatives including SALVEtoday, Report from Newport and media relations.
Ensure all content published to constituents and the higher education industry is accurate, in keeping with brand positioning, and coordinated with appropriate institutional research, student affairs and legal departments on campus.
Ensure consistency between digital and print materials in terms of messaging and strategic content serving the audiences of Salve Regina University both internally and externally.
Provide direction and guidance in the development of integrated marketing communication content for advertising, content marketing, PR and social media to ensure the attainment of University objectives and the elevation of Salve Regina's brand.
Coordinate requests, edit copy submitted by academic and administrative departments, and write or proofread material as necessary in order to maintain effective and timely content that is consistent with the University's brand and messaging platforms.
Advise and assist in maintaining an appropriate structure for the flow of communicative content internally and externally via platforms designated for such distribution including www.salve.edu, and any third-party affiliations, news feeds and solicitation pieces in association with team members in University Relations, Institutional Research and Information Technologies.
Maintain the operations of SALVEtoday, the University's news and information website, by producing original content, editing submitted content and managing assignments to interns and work-study students.
Compile, produce, and distribute the weekly SALVEtoday Update email newsletter. Coordinate the editing and distribution of additional email newsletters as determined by University policies and best practices.
Maintain the University events calendar by regularly adding applicable event information, or overseeing the correct use of imported calendar data. Liaise proactively with campus offices and academic departments to ensure all upcoming events are listed in a timely manner.
Provide day-to-day support for the University's social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other outlets by contributing to content and specialized messaging.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Crisis Communication and Response Team and the Advertising Campaign Team as needed.
Participate in a cross-functional environment for planning and prioritizing production work, and other projects tied to strategic communications for Salve Regina University.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Integrated Content and Production, the Director of Constituent Publications and Design, and the Director of Media Relations and Leadership Communication.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, English or a related field required along with one or more years of applicable experience.
Proficiency with Macintosh platforms of computing, Microsoft Office, and email marketing tools such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.
Proven production and multimedia background with knowledge of software applications and industry-specific tools such as WordPress or Drupal content management platforms.
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects independently.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to respond to communication needs on a timely or emergency basis.
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills; knowledge of AP style a plus. Working knowledge of marketing and communications principles.
Working experience with digital storytelling, corporate identity, and branding are preferred.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Computer proficiency on both Macintosh and PC platforms required.
Valid driver's license required.
