External Job Description

Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Basic Qualifications

This job requires - Apprentice School graduate, or a Bachelor's degree and 6 years of shipbuilding, related military, manufacturing, or production operations experience OR - 6 years experience as the Prod Plng and Scheduler OR - 6 years of testing/production management experience (e.g. Foreman) OR - 13 years experience in manufacturing, production operations or related military service (inclusive of 4 years supervisory/leadership experience or Planning/Production Control/Naval systems specialized training experience) and possess a well-founded knowledge of production operations, production processes, ship systems, and planning methods and schedules and/or plant maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications

This position is for a New Carrier Construction Production Planning and Scheduler 3 working as a Material Control Production Planner. The specific responsibilities this candidate will carry out supports the main duty of keeping production and construction flowing smoothly with the needed materials. This PP&S3 candidate will be embedded with the production and construction teams and will have responsibility for ensuring a steady supply of products and materials to customers, this includes in-house manufactured materials and purchased materials. Material Control planners are required to communicate and interact daily with their respective General Foreman and/or Foreman, Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality and the entire value stream to review the weekly work scheduled, identify work package liabilities (IRs, unavailable material, problem log entries etc.), and remove material barriers that prevent production and construction from having all materials available JIT. SAP material module & trade experience is a plus.
