JOB DESCRIPTION

El Rey Network is a 24-hr English-language network founded by filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez. Curated by Rodriguez and his artistic collective, the network unites "the new mainstream" through bad-ass content that awakens the renegade in everyone. El Rey's programming content includes a mix of original content including the top-rated wrestling series, Lucha Underground, the recently launched Man at Arms: Art of War, and Baja Desert Racing Series. In addition, the network features themed movie nights, highly promotable iconic weekend movie marathons, specials, and other acquired series.

As head of El Rey Network Programming and Content Acquisition your main responsibilities will focus on: scheduling, inventory management, internal operations compliance and network brand reinforcement. Professional and personal attributes include, well rounded industry programming contacts, high level contract negotiation skills and legal comprehension, astute in media viewing trends across linear and digital platforms and across multiple cultures, with a specific focus on the Hispanic community.

Job Responsibilities

Executive Management:

* Ability to clearly articulate throughout all company departments and upper management, the strategy driving both acquisitions and scheduling

* Sensitivity to key executive stakeholders to properly and effectively communicate strategies driving programming decisions and recommendations, as well as content deals and cost structure to finance, legal and upper management

* Work in partnership with various company departments to help grow audience, network and program awareness along with continuing to support the anchor brand

* Team with Ad Sales executives to help both help attain and integrate advertiser sponsorships

Content Acquisition:

* Strong understanding of multicultural trends relative to program preferences and lifestyle behaviors that drive media consumption, with emphasized focus on the Hispanic market

* Demonstrate strong existing working relationships along with networking ability to forge new connections with major and independent studios, as well as leading digital content platforms

* Keen familiarity with niche and obscure content as well as general market

* Sharp awareness of competitive programming acquisitions, development and performance, across linear and digital platforms

Contract Negotiation:

* Strategically negotiate the most favorable rates and deal terms across linear and digital platforms

* Become fully knowledgeable of El Rey's standard suite of rights to be clearly conversant when negotiating outside deals and presenting them internally

* Work hand in hand with internal legal and be fully versed in contract language/legalese

* Sharp knowledge of content finance: run rates, margins, amortization, budget management

Scheduling:

* Closely monitor network performance by program, title and daypart, across all demo groups, to help elevate strengths and address any weaknesses

* Understand and work within the timetables of various departments to supply required information to implement scheduling and promotion initiatives

* Creative aptitude to advise and collaborate with the promotions and marketing departments to support program launches, specials and ongoing regular scheduling

Inventory Management:

* Diligently maintain the programming grid on a timely basis, communicating the schedule with clearly identified promotion priorities

* Regularly track all content assets, ensure rights and runs are accurately maintained and adhered to for internal systems

* Coordinate with Media Planning, Research, and Ad Sales to ensure formats are effectively structured to reflect network needs, viewer behavior and ad load requirements

* Closely monitor news events to reconcile inventory risk for sensitive subject matter

Operations:

* Oversee and ensure compliance with MVPD and FCC obligations, including S&P, CCs, Content Ratings/Advisories

* Leverage programming budget for maximum product quality and quantity

* Oversee run time formatting to ensure all content fits El Rey's standard clocks

* Ensure program guides are accurately maintained

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills & Experience

* Bachelor's degree and/or 7+ years experience in the television/cable industry in programming development or content acquisition capacity

* Substantial experience in direct negotiations, research, content acquisition, operations and scheduling as well as business and programming strategy and inventory management

* Coordinate forecasting with finance and research for ad sales and upper management

* Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills

* Deliver within tight deadlines and last-minute changes

* Represent El Rey at industry events

Eligibility Requirements

* Must be willing to work from office in New York, NY and some travel in Los Angeles, CA

* Employment/education will be verified

* Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
