Job Description

The Child Mind Institute is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to act as a key member of the Finance team, responsible for performing accounting work required to maintain the general ledger across three legal entities. Working under the direction of the Director of Finance and Controller, the Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate recording of transactions into the organizations financial system. The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for day-to-day financial tasks, which include maintaining the integrity of the general ledgete data, reviewing processing of payments, bank reconciliations, recording of journal entries, cash receipts, and providing general accounting support.. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing interim and annual financial statements as well as coordinating the organization’s annual audit.

The incumbent should be a highly motivated self-starter who understands the nuances of non-profit accounting.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, this is a full-time, exempt position, located in our NYC headquarters office.

  • Plan and mage the monthly closing process.
  • Prepare trial balance and financial reports for month end close, with properly supported journal entries and update supporting schedules such as AP/AR aging reports, Fixed assets, Prepaid/accrued expenses
  • Preapare and maintain Temporarily Restricted Net Asset release schedule and reconciliation with GL. Coordinating with Sponsored Program team as needed
  • Work with FP&A team to for analysis of month end financials
  • Work with FP&A and Sponsored programs teams to ensure that budgets are accurately reflected in general ledger
  • Review accounts payable and other subsidiary ledger entries for posting to the general ledger.
  • Prepare consolidating entries and financial reports.
  • Review cash and Investment reconciliations
  • Maintain methodology and ensure proper allocation of expenses.
  • Review payroll entry and allocations.
  • Prompt response to inquiries to the general ledger.
  • Prepare or review information and schedules for auditors as needed.
  • Prepare or review schedules and documentation as needed for tax preparation.
  • Utilize accounting principles to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with Sponsored Prgram team to prepare, update, and maintain grant reports for various donors.
  • Oversee preparation of annual 1099s.
  • Managing AP coordinators, Staff and Senior accountants
  • Responsible for administration of accounting systems
  • Ad-hoc tasks upon request by management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar discipline..
  • Advanced Education/Certifications/CPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years professional accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills required.
  • Strong supervisory experience required
  • Exceptional attention to detail while acutely aware of the “big picture.“
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High-level of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and excellent work ethic.
  • Demonstrated initiative and follow through on assignments.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced skills in Excel a must)
  • Previous non-profit experience is a plus.
  • Experience with SAGE INTACCT and Workday Adaptive is a plus
