Practice Administrator

Under direction from the Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at Columbia and in collaboration with the Administrators of the respective Departments of Surgery, manages the business affairs and administrative functions of the breast surgery division. In collaboration with the Division Chief and Department Administrators, formulates the Divisional policies, goals and objectives. Analyzes the Division's business activities and develops financial and strategic models for short and long-term planning. Oversees the implementation of planning decisions. Manages and improves operation of the support functions of the Breast Surgery Division including the basic research laboratory, the clinical trials unit as well as the infrastructure devoted to patient care. Collaborates with the Division Chief and other divisional members to ensure customer (patient and family) satisfaction and service excellence. Establishes and maintains lines of communication with referring physicians in order to increase and maintain referral patterns. Supports the divisional goals and objectives related to education and research and community involvement.

1.Assists in the development and management of the distinct annual operating budgets of the Division.

2.Analyzes variances in operating budgets to confirm causative factors and identifying corrective measures as necessary.

3.Presenting alternatives for achieving goals or negotiating changes in the goals with the clinical leadership.

4.Institutes measures to improve financial performance as well as clinical productivity.

5.Analyzes and develops plans to incorporate new financial opportunities into Divisional structure to enhance revenue and contain/reduce costs.

6.Monitors volume and works to improve the programs cost structure, productivity and revenue position.

7.In collaboration with the Division Chief and respective Department Administrators, assists in the development of business plans with the hospital related to expansion or development of the Breast Surgery division.

8.Works with hospital planners and architects to identify/design space.

9.Monitors capital budget, oversees project costs maintaining responsibility for quality and cost control.

10.Closely monitors billing operations for Breast Surgery to ensure maximum productivity.

11.Supervises all administrative, research and medical support staff in the Breast Surgery division.

12.Collaborates with the Division Chief in the recruitment, hiring, termination of all non-faculty staff and employees.

13.In collaboration with Human Resources develops policies and procedures related to education, evaluation and supervision of all support staff.

14.Conducts annual performance appraisals, handles employee grievances and disciplinary problems, and makes recommendations for salary adjustments and promotions for non-academic employees.

15.Optimizes utilization of staff and resources by evaluating and managing how when and where activities are carried out for the Division.

16.Assists in the development of a strategic plan and conducts regular staff meetings, organizes and prioritizes agendas for the Division.

17.Participates in hospital development and improvement projects related to Breast Surgery.

18.Interfaces with hospital and departmental management regarding the division's performance as appropriate, requests support and direction to ensure ongoing strategic and operation excellence.

19.Develops, evaluates and manages marketing strategies to promote Breast Surgery and encourage patient's referrals. Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience. Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Strong background in professional reimbursement and Practice Operations management.

Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills required.

Strong clinical operational experience preferred.
