Manager, Fabric Research & Development - LOFT

Position Overview

This position drives the seasonal fabric research and development in alignment with sourcing, cost and leadtime strategy. Implements Ann Inc standards, through design vision and product integrity while adhering to the Product Life Cycle (PLC). Responsible for management of direct report(s). Champions the company's values and practices by maintaining effective collaborative relationships, taking pride in the company and brand, and embracing diversity. Essential Responsibilities

Strategy & Operations:

  • Management of fabric categories
  • Align with Senior Manager in sourcing and developing fabrics to meet design vision, merchandising requirements and corporate goals
  • Continuously evaluate and enforce mill base
  • Recipe maintenance for seasonal hindsights and reports
  • Drive PLC dates; ensuring self and team meet all deadlines and recipe maintenance for seasonal hindsights and reports
  • Build and maintain seasonal binders for complete fabric records by classification
  • Ownership of fabric standard setting (FSS) for all fabrics (wovens & knits) across all managed categories
  • Oversee replenishment and maintenance of fabric library
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with all key cross functional partners on fabric development and related issues
  • Drive innovation - attend fabric shows and mill appointments; research and present fabric trends to the cross function team
  • Stay abreast of advancements in textiles
  • Build seasonal concept packages for all categories
  • Work with Senior Manager to troubleshoot and resolve development and bulk issues for all categories managed
  • Be an expert for your categories and take the lead in meetings
  • Proactively manage sample yardage ready dates for all categories and troubleshoot where necessary
  • Streamline workload and communication for team
  • Manage all copyright documentation and communication with overseas and legal department
  • Manage other responsibilities and projects
  • Manage and analyze seasonal development cost and development metrics, ensuring alignment of fiscal and quality goals
  • Build and maintain relationships with fabric suppliers and agents
  • Report regularly to brand lead on status updates and review all development and bulk issues

People Management:

  • Mentor, coach and counsel direct reports on performance expectations
  • Provide a positive and motivating work environment
  • Recognize and reward talent and accomplishments
  • Interface effectively with all levels of the organization

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience

Experience: 5+ years in the fashion industry, with expertise in fabric development knowledge

  • Technical knowledge of fabric including construction, wash and print
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience collaborating with in-house design teams
  • Ability to drive processes and PLC with direct report(s) and cross functional team
  • Ability to understand mill capabilities and direct development into most appropriate resources
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and delegate accordingly
  • Excellent negotiating, presentation and follow-up skills
  • Management experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
