Roles &Responsibilities:

Greets andestablishes first contact with patients. Confirms and updates patientdemographics and verifies insurance as necessary to ensure that patients haveappropriate insurance for physician they are seeing. Responsibilities mayinclude provides secretarial and clinical support to Physicians & Surgeonsin a faculty practice setting.

This positionwill require consistent rotation in various Faculty Practices; flexibility is amust.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Greet patients either in person or via telephone,enter and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.

* Verifies patients' insurance coverage prior topatient's appointment and advised patient of any insurance referrals orauthorizations needed. Prior to patient's arrival or at minimum at time ofarrival before visit.

* Communicate with appropriate staff regardingpatient's arrival, and ensure that patient's medical record is available forphysician

* Process/update HIPAA-related paperwork and otherinstitutional forms as necessary

* Collect or retrieve referrals or insuranceauthorizations for procedures and tests ordered by attending physician

* Review status of waiting room on a routine basisand ensure that patients are kept advised of wait times

* May enter orders into the electronic medicalrecord (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of thephysician for the review and approval by the ordering physician

* Ensures that patient has paid co-pay or collectsco-pay under direction of billing staff, providing patient with receiptfollowing established cash-control processes

* May schedule surgeries/procedures or work inconjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparingcharts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary

* May schedule patient for follow-up appointment asneeded. Provide patient with guidelines for requesting medical records, ifnecessary

* May perform simple charge entry tasks or enterpayments collected from patients and prepare Cashier's deposit. Note: dutiesare mutually exclusive and may not be performed by the same employee

* Answer phones for practice and scheduleappointments, Take detailed clinical phone messages for physician or advancedallied healthcare provider

* Follow all HIPAA and any other governmental orstate agency requirements regarding the appropriate handling of PHI documents

* May initiate reminder phones calls for next dayappointments. Help direct patient flow during practice hours

* Performs other related duties

Requirements:

Experience:

* High School graduate/GED

* Ability to communicate effectively withmulticultural and language-deficit patients

* Effective interpersonal and communications skillsrequired.

* Excellent telephone etiquette.

* Knowledge of medical terminology stronglypreferred

* Knowledge of electronic medical record and/orbilling systems preferred, (not required)

* Must be able to adapt to a growing and changingenvironment

* Must have a minimum 6 weeks training on-sitewhich will be provided by FPA practice

* Prefer experience in a medical office setting,utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling
