Position Summary:

The Director Corporate Communications is a strategic and influential leader at JetBlue who will help position JetBlue as a caring, mission-driven company among external and internal key stakeholders. The Director is passionate about JetBlue's mission to “inspire humanity“ and will craft stories that build the company's reputation around successful execution of that mission. The Director is comfortable creating programs that engage all audiences, from working with top-tier reporters on proactive brand programs to leading internal crewmember (employee) efforts. The Director maintains a high-profile role with senior leaders, excels when working on complex projects in a 24/7 environment, and is able to manage evolving priorities to meet business demands. The Director is effective at issues management and crisis communications. The Director reports to the Vice President Corporate Communications and is a caring leader for a team of communicators.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Build strategic, integrated communications programs related to company initiatives, corporate strategy and long-term vision that apply creative tactics across a variety of external and internal communication channels
  • Shape stories and messages that resonate with all of JetBlue's key stakeholders including customers, media, influencers, social followers, investors/analysts and Crewmembers (employees)
  • Manage and develop a team of communications professionals, taking a significant role in supporting their engagement, growth, and goals
  • Create external and internal visibility programs and thought leadership platforms for JetBlue leaders
  • Maintain and develop strong traditional and online media relationships
  • Prepare JetBlue leaders for media interviews and speaking opportunities
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of social media trends and effective social engagement
  • Work with the Vice President to manage communications agency/business partner relationships
  • Collaborate with internal JetBlue functions – including Marketing/Commercial, Legal, Finance, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, People (human resources), Strategy, and IT – to ensure integrated storytelling to get the most from communications efforts
  • Oversee issues management and crisis communications situations, including after-hours media relations and other duties as determined by the Vice President Corporate Communications
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or relevant area of study
  • Seven (7) years of experience in communications/public affairs
  • Experience managing others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Project management/communication campaign experience
  • Able to meet multiple tight deadlines and manage team to do the same
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion
  • Creativity with an eye for detail and design and technical savvy
  • Available for overnight / international travel as needed
  • Must be available occasionally for unplanned events, including incident and crisis response
  • In possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Able to complete a work product assignment upon request
  • Able to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Experiences Preferred:

  • Public relations agency experience in an account leadership position
  • Experience as a media spokesperson
  • Travel, hospitality or airline experience
  • Crisis communications and journalism or media relations experience

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue's Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue's #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue's Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue's safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
