Responsibilities

The incumbent performs environmental protection activities. Principal duties include identifying regularoy requirements and matching them to Western program activites to ensure Western is in compliance. Major duties include managing the hazardous and toxic materials program, administering an environmental inspection program, and providing guidance and technical assistance to other Western employees.

Travel Required

25% or less - Overnight travel may be required up to 5 nights per month.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: For the GS-11 level: Experience with hazardous and toxic materials: spill response and cleanup; Federal and State hazardous waste laws, regulations, rules and guidance. For the GS-12 in addition to the requirementss for the GS-11, specialized experience includes experience with NEPA and project management.

* Knowledge of EPA standards, manuals, established procedures and policy statements sufficient to interpret, and apply guidelines.

* Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to present facts andrecommendations.

* Ability to effectively represent Western in meetings.

* Knowledge of and ability to interpret EPA regulations concerning hazardous and toxic waste program.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

For this position, education cannot be substituted for specialized experience above the GS-11 level.
