Accountabilities

Manage external variety trialing processes for tomatoes in the eastern U.S. region, with a primary focus on conducting agricultural research at the Product Life Cycle (PLC) 5 and PLC 6.1 levels and conduct special projects. Manage external variety trialing for determining the suitability of experimental tomato varieties for commercial introduction. Evaluate adaptability of tomato varieties to various environments and production practices. Identify the strengths and limitations of these varieties. Make recommendations as to the overall market acceptability based on research. Regional travel is required to set up, plant, and evaluate trials across Florida and the eastern U.S. Travel is required up to 60% of the time with overnight stays ranging from 25% to 30% of the time.

Qualifications

* This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Horticultural Science, or a related field and two years of experience with crop production and testing.

* Must also have two years of experience with each of the following: 1) Field testing and research of crop management strategies; 2) Planning, conducting, and evaluating vegetable crop performance trials; and, 3) Preparing experimental designs for effective trial layouts.

* Must have one year of direct market experience related to tomato, or other vegetable crops.

* Must have successfully completed of at least one college level course in statistics.
