The Product Design Manager will be responsible for the development of new consumable products to fill Wilton's new product innovation pipeline. This role is responsible for the ideation of product concepts, cross-functional work to bring the product to life, and ultimately defining product details and specifications. You will need to apply consumer insights, production processes, and business requirements to ground new development. In addition to: execute the development of new food products from conception through the sign off for approved production.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Responsible for new product development within Wilton's consumable "food" categories. Works closely with the respective Product Design team members, Innovation team members, as well Product Management partners to align on pipeline strategy and objectives, and then is a key support for Product Design Director to lead cross-functional teams to conceptualize, develop, and commercialize concepts.

* Responsible for ensuring all development is grounded in the needs of our target consumers as well as the Wilton brand and current food and design trends. Works with Consumer Insights to better understand those consumer insights and pain points, to not only inform development, but also validate concepts through qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

* Works closely with fellow Product Design team members and Product Management partners to ensure each food product in development delivers against category strategies, revenue targets, margin requirements, and launch timing expectations.

* Product Design Manager role to work with his/her manager to align on product positioning, claims development, primary/secondary packing specs, vendor partners, cost of goods, prototypes for new product concepts and accurate completion of all new food product documentation.

* Works cross-functionally to project manage the development of pipeline against the new product development process while ensuring the best possible deliverables. Effective project management includes:

* Partnering with Product Management regarding clear product briefs and guidelines for development are turned over in a timely manner

* Working with Food Scientists in development and management of product specifications required for sourcing and operations teams to identify vendors, formulations, and cost of goods

* Collaborating with Food Scientists to help ensure all formulas deliver against product briefs, inclusive of format, color/flavor, claims, and costs

* Working closely with Sourcing in US and China to identify the best vendor for each product, and managing proper formula, packaging, costs, and production timelines objectives are achieved

* Creating accurate Product Information Forms (PIFs) based on food product design requirements along with any other relevant information throughout the product development process

* Partnering with Compliance, Regulatory, Quality, and Legal against any product claims, performance expectations, regulatory issues, and labeling requirements

* Collaborating with Project Management to ensure timely commercialization and development milestone achievement

Education and Experience:

* BA/BS a must

* Experience in food innovation and/or commercialization a plus

* 5+ years in a related role working with internal teams on new product development of consumer packaged goods, inclusive of product concept and positioning development, sourcing, development, and project management

* Experienced working within detailed project management timelines to effectively complete product design tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong cross-functional collaboration skills – excellent teamwork skills are a must

* Ability to analyze and evaluate data to make recommendations and decisions

* Experience in developing concept/story development

* Detail- and process-orientation, with strong project management skills, and a track record of delivering projects on-time

* Comfort working with Asian vendor partners for development, inclusive of cultural considerations and time zone differences

* Creative mindset for developing new ideas, products, and assortments options


* Comfort with understanding costing and pricing

* Strong cross-functional collaboration

* Business acumen

* Written and verbal storytelling skills

* Strategic abilities

Physical Demands/Work Requirements:

* Available after standard business hours for international calls with Asia office and/or vendors.
