The Nursing Assistant in Training may function in the capacity of a nurse assistant only after completing a certified nursing assistant program and are waiting to take the state skills and written exam. The non-certified Nursing Assistant in Training may function as a nurse assistant while completing a state-approved certification program. Once state testing is completed and Nursing Assistants in Training receive confirmation of passing, they are not considered a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and would follow the job description for the CNA.


* The Nursing Assistant in Training follows state-approved clinical curriculum including:

* Takes and records vital signs

* Measures and records height and weight

* Calculates and records weight gain or loss

* Calculates and records fluid intake and output

* Cares for the Resident’s environment

* Recognize abnormal changes in body function and the importance of reporting such changes to a supervisor

* Makes routine rounds on assigned Resident

* Bathes Residents

* Assists with grooming, including mouth care

* Dresses Residents

* Toilets Residents

* Assists with eating and hydration

* Uses proper feeding techniques

* Calculates and records percentage of meal eaten

* Observes Resident’s skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.

* Provides skin care per protocols

* Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.

* Responds to Residents’ behaviors in ways to help minimize the behaviors .

* Allows Residents to make personal choices.

* Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with the Residents’ dignity.

* Provides nursing rehabilitation/restorative nursing by:

* Promoting Resident’s/Resident’s ability to adopt and adjust to living as independtly as possible

* Provides non-Resident care including, but not limited to:

* Washing wheelchairs

* Cleaning soiled utility areas

* Cleaning nurses stations

* Cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms

* Cleaning kitchen areas on the nursing unit


* Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

* Must be a student in the facility’s state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant program.

* Possess some computer skills and understanding of documentation software program preferred.

Specific Requirements

* Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

* Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

* Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel, and the general public.

* Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.

* Must have patience, tact, a positive attitude and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

* Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

* Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

* Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

We want to train YOU to be the BEST CNA you can be!Please note: The position you are applying for is one of twelve seats in our upcoming "How to Become a CNA" class. The class will begin on January 8, 2018, and will run for three and a half weeks. Attendance and punctuality is detrimental to the successful completion of this course. You will be expected to attend classroom and clinicals for approximately 8 hours each day. Viable candidates MUST be willing and able to complete coursework at home, as assigned. Acceptance into this course is not a guarantee of employment, but employment may be offered upon successful completion.
