Urgency Center Technician

DescriptionThe Urgency Center Technician is responsible for assisting the Urgency Center care team by providing supportive, comforting and high quality care to customers and families. Receives direction and collaborates with the care team to meet identified goals of the customer, shift, and care center. Regularly communicates with care team members related to progress, concerns, questions, or issues that arise. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of the Urgency Center, Clinic Services, and North Memorial Health Care.

* Demonstrates supportive, comforting and compassionate care to customers and families.

* Monitors customer experience of care and safety through observation and data collection.

* Communicates customer concerns and authorizations related to care interventions to assigned RN or customer care facilitator.

* Performs treatments and technical procedures as required and within the defined scope of practice which may include: preparing customer for examination, administering CPR, administering EKGs, caring for wounds of injured customers by cleaning, dressing, and preparing wound lacerations for suturing/closure, performing adult urinary catheterizations (age 18 and over), insert IV lines and confirm placement, perform phlebotomies, applying splint per MD orders, performing AED defibrillator, setting up and assisting MD with special procedures such as insertion of chest tube, central lines, etc.,

* Collaborates in the planning of customer care.

* Recognizes emergent situations and responds promptly and effectively.

* Serves as an advocate for customers, families, peers and other care providers.

* Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the care being provided to the customer and promotes quality improvement and shared accountability.

* Participates in activities to promote quality improvement, share accountability and decision-making.

* Recognizes and complies with legal and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.

* Contributes to the organizational financial efficiency by working within identified budget parameters, following cost containment guidelines and contributing feedback to the budget process.

* Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

* The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.

* The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.

* Has access to medications appropriate to their job duties.

RequirementsEducation

* Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or EMT program.

* Successful completion of a state administered certification exam for emergency medical technicians preferred.

Experience

* 1+ years' experience as a nursing assistant in a clinic or hospital setting; emergency department-specific experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both oral and written) clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.

* Must be able to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position required.

* Skill in basic computer operations.

* Ability to be anticipatory to the needs of the customer; to take initiative, be self-motivated and a proactive, independent, accountable, dependable performer.

* Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others.

* Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations.

* Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.

License Requirement• BLS certification
