Summary

Are you a fairly organized person? Do you like more hands on activities? If this sounds like you, then the position of Warehouse Assistant may just be the job for you!! This position is mainly responsible for organizing and cleaning the preparation area, un-boxing and re-boxing furniture, and performing general maintenance within the operations area.

Basic knowledge of a computer is necessary in order to punch in and out, check company email, and look up basic inventory information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

Performs general housekeeping duties such as but not limited to:

* Picking up trash and cardboard, sweeping, emptying garbage, and keeping area void of safety hazards.

* Operates cardboard and garbage compactor in a safe manner.

* Un-boxes, re-boxes using a utility knife in a safe manner.

* Operates as a team member in lifting and moving of product.

* Assembles product per manufacturer instructions.

* Lifts or moves product, weighing up to 150 lbs.

* Occasionally able to operate a forklift.

* Assists other departments as directed by manager or supervisor.

* Adheres to safe lifting techniques, follows proper training for learned job hazards and ergonomic risk factors, participates in departmental stretching program, and overall maintains a safe working environment.

* This individual should understand and follow company policies as directed by HOM Furniture, Inc.

Education and/or Experience

Must have or be currently working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); and have three to six months related experience and or training.

Language Skills

Requires skills to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Necessary skills to write simple correspondence. Must be capable of effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written format.

Mathematical Skills

Mathematical aptitude to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for sustained periods of time, move about on foot to accomplish tasks, use spoken word to communicate, and perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.

The employee is occasionally required to sit or remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects with either the entire hand or fingers, including typing. Reach with hands and arms in any direction, ascend and descend ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Stooping by bending downward and forward by bending at the waist, kneeling or bending at the knees to come to a rest on knee or knees, crouching by bending the body downward and forward, or crawling by moving about on hands or hands and feet. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data or figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, and using measurement devices.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Need necessary skills to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
