Cray has an opening for a motivated and skilled software developer to join its Chapel development team. The Chapel Development Engineer will work on improving the Chapel language. Ideal candidates will have experience with compiler optimization and LLVM-based code generation. Ideal candidates will also possess capabilities with processor ISAs, emerging processor designs, and language semantics. This position would include the ability to conduct in-depth compiler debugging and product development activities, as Chapel continues to advance the state of ira programming language. This work includes the design and implementation of new compiler-based optimizations, enhancing the interface between the Chapel and the LLVM-based code generator and working to improve the overall quality of the Chapel compiler.RequirementsQualifications:

* B.S. Computer Science or similar discipline is required. Advanced degrees are welcome. At least 3 years of experience in compiler development or equivalent combination of education and experience, particularly with regards to compiler optimization.

* Background in high performance computing architectures, including multiprocessing and vectorization, is highly desired.

* Experience with the LLVM ecosystem is highly desired.

* Proficiency writing in C++ and C is required.

* Due to the nature of work and access requirement, US Citizenship is required

Experience in working with large projects, or an advanced thesis in an appropriate area. Commitment to sound software engineering principles, experience with agile development, outstanding problem solving skills, ability to work well in a cooperative development environment, and good written and verbal communications skills.
