Key accountabilities:

  • Lead efforts to develop new heterogeneous catalysts for PX and PTA production
  • Oversee the production and qualification of heterogeneous catalysts produced by 3rd party catalyst manufacturers for use in BP and licensee plants
  • Lead experimental programs designed to improve our fundamental understanding of heterogeneous catalysts and to improve their performance
  • Analyze and interpret experimental and manufacturing process data and make technical recommendations
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and optimization support to manufacturing sites
  • Assist in commercial technology implementation and optimization during plant start-up and plant tests
  • Maintain awareness of pertinent technical literature and make recommendations regarding competitive threats and technical opportunities 
  • Document and share technical work both verbally and in writing
  • Ensure safe and efficient execution of research projects, striving to meet key milestones on time
  • Work effectively in teams, providing leadership when needed
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues in Technology & Licensing, manufacturing and commercial personnel, and 3rd party representatives involved with technology development, implementation and optimization
  • Manage external  programs with 3rd parties including universities, consultants, and catalyst manufacturers, as needed
  • Actively support BP's policies for process and personal safety
  • Protect BP know-how, confidential information and intellectual property
  • Comply with BP's Code of Conduct and model BP's Values and Behaviors

Essential education: PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering 

Essential experience and job requirements:
  • Minimum of 4 years of industrial R&D experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in heterogeneous catalyst research and development 
Preferred experience:
  • Experience in experimental chemical process technology development, implementation and optimization
  • Experience with zeolite catalysts
  • Demonstrated leadership of research & development programs and/or technology commercialization projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of chemistry skills and experience in chemical process research and development
  • Track record of technical excellence and delivery in technology research, development, implementation and optimization
  • Proven experience in analyzing data to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Demonstrated  success in working with 3rd parties including universities, consultants and  catalyst manufacturers
  • Demonstrated safety leadership - a role model for personal and process safety
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills
