The City of Milpitas is seeking a Human Resources Director.

The Human Resources Director reports to the City Manager and works closely with elected officials, peer department heads, and the City-wide organization providing progressive leadership and innovative approaches and programs to benefit City operations. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, approachable, an open communicator, and a credible advisor who is committed to mentorship and the professional growth of the City organization.

Key priorities for the position include serving as the primary contact for projects related to leadership development, employee recognition, outreach initiatives, special projects, and collaborative work with all levels of the City organization. The Human Resources Director will also lead initiatives to improve and update the City's recruitment, benefits, and labor relations practices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education and experience, such as a minimum of four years of public sector experience in a professional personnel management role including management and supervision of staff, and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to Human Resources. A Master's degree is desirable.



$151,999-$212,800/year, depending on qualifications and experience.


Membership in CalPERS (2% at 60 or 2% at 62 with three year average salary).


Choice of CalPERS Medical Plans. City pays for coverage up to the Kaiser rate (currently $2027.64/mo. for family).


City provides full family coverage for dental and vision at no cost to the employee.


City provides $50,000 term policy.


City contributes $75 per month on the employee's behalf.


Employees earn 16-36 days of vacation based on years of service.


Employees earn 5 hours of Management Incentive Pay (MIP) leave each full pay period worked.


Employees receive 12 paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday per year.


Employees earn 12 days annually.


Employees are eligible to receive up to $ 1,400 per fiscal year in tuition reimbursement.

The City also offers a flexible benefits plan, employee assistance program, and other voluntary insurance .
