The Millport, AL lumber mill is currently recruiting for a skilled equipment operator to fill the role of Planer Infeed Operator. This operational role is key in safely ensuring the effective and efficient process of finishing quality lumber to be shipped to the end customer.

Key Functions

* Operate planer in-feed station.

* Operate planer controls.

* Remove reject lumber.

* Operate Planer at production rates to achieve plan.

* Operate planer, producing quality results.

* Monitor and coordinate flow of material, perform quality control checks, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure production quality and quantity standards are met.

* Remove jams and resolve other production flow issues

* Maintain housekeeping standards in surrounding areas.

* May provide back up support for Planer Set Up Operator, which includes setting up the Planer, making adjustments, grinding and setting knives in cutting heads, changing heads as needed, etc.

* May perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment, including saw and/or knife changes, and work closely with the Maintenance department to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.

* Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures

* High school diploma or equivalent

* 3 years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment; previous lumber manufacturing experience preferred.

* Demonstrated ability to work successfully as a member of a team.

* Outstanding comprehension, communication, and decision-making skills

* Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

* Able to conduct visual equipment inspections, perform basic preventive maintenance and assist maintenance in troubleshooting/improving equipment

* Able to perform basic calculations

* Ability to operate complex machinery

* Able to successfully complete forklift training

* Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical

* Able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, holidays as needed

* Able to work in extreme temperatures and dusty/noisy conditions, while wearing safety equipment.

* Able to perform all essential job functions, which includes changing saws/knives, lifting 2-20 pounds regularly, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, climbing steps and ladders, working from height and in tight spaces, and standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours.

* Preference will be given to candidates with basic mechanical skills and previous experience in log processing, planer set up, and/or lumber drying/grading.
