The Emergency Response Program manages Navy Installations Command's response plans to provide assistance to the Navy Family during a disaster.

Navy Housing manages housing Navywide, including permanent party family housing and unaccompanied housing. Focused on assisting Sailors, both single and those with families, receive suitable, affordable and safe housing wherever they are assigned.

The Support Services Center supports the other four divisions and regional Fleet and Family Readiness Service Centers through a consolidation of management support functions, such as NAF financial management, marketing, training, NAF human resources, facilities and acquisition, information technology, and management evaluation and assistance.

Navy Wounded Warrior – Safe Harbor coordinates the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and provides resources and support to their families and offers individually-tailored assistance to ensure enrollees' successful recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration.

Responsibilities

This position is located at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites operation at NSA-Mid South. This position oversees daily housekeeping and custodial operations for the lodging program.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures security and privacy of guests is maintained at all times.

Must possess effective communication skills and answer guest questions and provide information about local attractions. Assist with customer complaints, involving management as necessary.

Utilizes the Property Management System (PMS) to access reports for determining work assignments for housekeepers.

May act as the supervisor in the absence of the supervisor.

Conducts inspections of rooms, housekeeping carts, common areas, laundry facilities, and maintains documentation of these inspections.

Assists with training on proper work methods and safety procedures. Implements all safety, fire prevention, MSDS, and environmental/industrial hygiene requirements.

Then incumbent is responsible for the security of all items in the storeroom/storage areas. Places orders for cleaning supplies, in-room amenities, and other materials/equipment.

Ensures equipment is properly maintained, stored, and accounted for. Issues amenities, supplies and linen to the housekeepers and performs a monthly/quarterly inventory.

Investigate/prepares reports for staff mishaps/accidents.

Assists with the regular housekeeping duties and fills in where needed.

Train new housekeeping staff and provide coaching/counseling.

Handles guest/staff suggestions and complaints.

Must perform duties of housekeepers, custodial workers, laundry workers, and/or their respective leaders on an "as needed" basis to cover for staff shortages or other unanticipated occurrences.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY POSITION

Requires on year of work experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic principles, concepts, standards, regulations and administration related to housekeeping and/or custodial operations.

Knowledge of the lodging organization, administration, policies/procedures, and practices in conducting day-to-day operations.

Must possess basic math and reading skills and communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Manager. Ensures that established functions/policies for housekeeping operations are implemented.

Work assignments (completed and in-progress) for the assigned housekeepers are evaluated by the manager to assure that work practices, techniques, records, and other functions are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions.

COMPLEXITY

The operation conducts business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Customer service is of foremost importance in this position.

The incumbent may be required to work a variety of shifts and must be trained to accomplish a variety of tasks.

The general purpose of this work is to lead housekeeping related duties and provide superior customer service to guests.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The incumbent is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds is required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation. Some facilities will require exposure to outdoors, as access to some rooms is from the outside, resulting in exposure to weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in household cleaners. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused.

This position is subject to the possibility of workdays on weekend and holidays, as well as, rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours.

The staff member may be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime as necessary to meet mission requirements or on an emergency basis.

In order to verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination may be required.

May be required to possess a valid state driver license. Travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties. Applicants will be notified when the is a requirement for appointment.

This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

The incumbent is expected to meet the requirements of a Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) within six months of employment and all requirements for housekeeping/custodial services as outlined in the Lodging Career Path Guide.
