This is technical work with limited supervisory duties administering assigned physical therapy treatments in the rehabilitation department of a county hospital. Physical Therapy Assistants perform assigned therapeutic activities pre-determined by Registered Physical Therapists in one or more areas such as exercise, modality or ward. An additional responsibility is the supervision of Physical Therapy Aides in the movement of patients and the maintenance of treatment areas and equipment. Incumbents are required to rotate between wards and special gym or other areas, as the need demands. Treatments of a simple nature, previously outlined by Registered Physical Therapists, are completed with some independence of action. Work is performed under close guidance and supervision of Registered Physical Therapists who interpret orders of physicians, explain treatment objectives and procedures, make decisions regarding treatment changes, and review progress notes.

Possession of an Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited junior college in an approved program and completion of appropriate clinical training. Florida license as a Physical Therapy Assistant is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.
