JOB PURPOSE: The Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager plans, coordinates, and directs quality management and LEAN continuous improvement department and programs. Drives the analysis of field product failures, customer complaints, and production floor failures. Leads failure analysis, root cause analysis and prioritizes corrective actions. Leads quality and process improvement activities. Manages programs and projects related to the improvement of manufacturing and operations processes. Evaluates implements and/or revises processes to improve productivity and quality, reduce costs, and more efficiently serve internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Manages the quality and test engineering, process improvement and facilities, and repair departments.

* Provide leadership and expertise to maintain and continuously improve the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

* Lead the internal and supplier qualification and sustainment audits for compliance to quality and continuous improvement requirements. Provide supplier quality assurance and continuous improvement leadership and support.

* Lead and assist with analyzing components submitted for failure analysis according to priorities, and assist with developing recommendations for resolution.

* Designs and implements quality training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.

* Lead the utilization and application of LEAN 6 sigma problem solving tools and techniques to prioritize product and process improvements.Analyzes, evaluates, and presents information concerning factors such as production capabilities, manufacturing problems, and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of management team.

* Lead the LEAN continuous improvement program and cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.

* Provide leadership in balancing the department workload through delegation of assignments and projects to engineers, technicians and designers. Act as a technical resource to assist in the training of level engineers, technicians and designers.

* Identify continuous improvement opportunities to the manufacturing processes in areas of manufacturing flow, line layout, equipment procurement, cycle time improvement, cost reduction, and material presentation. Utilizing "Best Practices", leverage common processes with other business units.

* Develop project schedules and resource plans, while cognizant of impact to ergonomics, safety and customer satisfaction. Provide leadership, direction and technical expertise to implement these manufacturing and/or quality improvement projects according to plan as well as monitoring and reporting on project activities.

* Promote and support use of process controls, such as First Time Yield charting, Document Control, Torque, Soldering, Terminating, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD),

* Ergonomics, Calibration, Total Quality Control (TQC), etc. Provide and support the communication of key measurements on the operations performance.

* Lead production associates, team leaders, and production manager and cross-functional teams on a routine basis. Supply technical direction and support of manufacturing for process/product issues and improvement opportunities. Support and foster cultural change efforts necessary to achieve organizational goals.

* Provide leadership in Single Piece Flow implementation, training, and maintenance. Aid in the certification and training of the workforce. Act as a technical resource for production associates on the use of Single Piece Flow principles.

* Ensure development and sustained maintenance of assembly, quality, and test documentation, tools, and fixtures.

* Review and implement Engineering Change Order (ECO)s. Control and oversee the disposition of non-conforming or deviated materials.

* Act as a technical resource to customers, vendors, and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems.

* Lead the organization in implementing and embracing LEAN tools (Six Sigma, MBF, TPM, Kanban, JIT, Cellular Mfg, VSM, 5S, Pareto, SMED, TQC, Single Piece Flow)

* Achieve Departmental Key Performance Indicators while efficient utilization of department resources.

* Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.

* Complete special projects as assigned.

* Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

* Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related engineering major and 7 – 10 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with lean tools and technologies. LEAN certified preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Requires a valid driver's license and passport. Certified Quality Engineer by ASQ required. 6 Sigma certification. Certified Reliability Engineer by ASQ preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and ISO documents. Ability to prepare reports and

documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization.
