Hardware Systems Electrical Engineer FRLOculus | Menlo Park, CA

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with experience in analog circuits and power to join our Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) team in Menlo Park, CA. In this role, you would work closely with researchers as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team (e.g. mechanical, electrical, optical, and software) to design, build, test, and maintain novel wearable neural interface technologies. Our research is focused on developing functional brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies for use in consumer electronic products. Our team collaborates extensively with small companies and academic institutions, and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.


* Design and integrate electrical systems, including architecture, component selection, PCB schematic and layout, bring-up, characterization, and integration

* Integrate electronics with optical, mechanical, and software components, as part of a multi-disciplinary team

* Characterize, debug, and test systems using bench-top laboratory equipment and scripting

* Drive electrical engineering activities to completion, leveraging the internal team and external vendors

* Work closely with researchers to understand their goals and elicit electrical system requirements

* Take prototypes to increasing levels of fidelity, ranging from proof-of-concept demonstrations to integrated systems

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

* 3+ years of industry experience in consumer product system design

* Schematic and board layout experience using Altium, Cadence, or equivalent

* Lab and debugging experience for board and system bring-up and characterization using bench-top laboratory equipment

* Knowledge of PCB layout principles, including signal integrity, power layout, desense, DFM, etc.

* Experience integrating electrical systems that include components such as communication interfaces (e.g., MIPI, USB, I2C, SPI, PCIe, etc.), optoelectronics, cameras, sensors, FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, amplifiers, wireless, ADCs, DACs, DC-DC converters, and power sequencing

Preferred Qualifications

* Exposure to a start-up environment or a research environment

* RTL coding skills using Verilog or VHDL

* Programming skills (e.g., scripting, low-level software, DSP programming)

* Exposure to medical imaging or scientific instrumentation system development

* Experience collaborating with JDM/CM/ODM

* Experience designing products for mass production consumer hardware

* Circuit simulations experience using SPICE

* Masters or PhD
