THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION.

Job Summary/Essential Job Functions: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position works within the Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science, and Toxicology to engage in research projects using rat models to examine the molecular mechanisms of substance abuse.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts molecular biology procedures, such as constructing next-generation sequencing libraries; studying chromatin structures (Hi-C or omni-C); and using spatial transcriptomics and western blotting for protein analysis.
  2. Oversees spatial transcriptomic studies.
  3. Prepares samples for molecular analysis, such as the micro-dissection of brain regions from cryostat sections; the isolation of single nuclei; and the extraction of DNA or RNA from tissue or blood.
  4. Manages preliminary data analysis.
  5. Organizes and records sample storage and coordinates transferring of samples with collaborators.
  6. Maintains the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
  7. Assist other lab personnel, as needed.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:Bachelors Degree in on one of thesciences. (TRANSCRIPT IS REQUIRED).

EXPERIENCE:One (1) year of research laboratoryexperience with molecular biological techniques; OR Masters Degree willbe accepted in lieu of experience. (Prior experience in molecular biologicaltechniques and experience in using R).

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology.
  • Ability to perform PCR, extraction of DNA/RNA.
  • Ability to construct next generation sequencing libraries.
  • Ability to do cryostat sectioning.
  • Ability to perform western blotting.
  • Ability to use R for data analysis.

WORK SCHEDULE: This positionmay be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends.
