School Nutrition Assistant

183 Day Position

Salary: School Nutrition Salary Scale ~ NOTE: The annual salary will be prorated for the remainder of the school year.

School Nutrition Assistant

The School Nutrition Assistant is directly responsible to the School-Level Nutrition Program Manager.

  • Follow the work schedule as developed by the School Nutrition Manager which should include:
  • Preparation of menu items in accordance with accepted institutional and HACCP procedures and approved recipes
  • Operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment as trained
  • Following the general work schedule
  • Following the general cleaning schedule
  • Proper labeling and storing of foods and menu items
  • Following sanitary rules for food handling and keeping work areas clean.
  • Adhere to sanitation requirements and safety rules and uniform standards.
  • Report to work neat and clean in proper attire
  • Serve food using correct portion control and sanitary techniques.
  • Participate in training workshops as recommended by the school, which at a minimum would include completion of the 30-hour course “Orientation for New Employees.“ (O.N.E.)
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students and staff.
  • Undertake other such duties as may be assigned by the Principal. Manager or director of food service in order to increase the effectiveness of the School Food Service Program.


  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. Some kneeling required.
  • Ability to work in conditions with extreme cold or heat.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations and understand and follow directions.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
