POSITION SUMMARY: 40 hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm at Plastic Surgery in Manchester.# The Medical Assistant-Scribe works to facilitate patient flow and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient by accompanying the attending physician during the medical history-taking and exam. Provides clinical support to the provider(s). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Creates and maintains the patient#s medical record under the direct supervision of the attending physician. Enters medical orders and prescriptions for the provider#s sign off and tracks the orders. Attends the patient encounter with the attending physician and records details of the patient encounter including chief complaint, history of present illness, disease risk factors, medications and allergies and other items as stated by the attending physician. Records the details of the physical exam as detailed by the attending physician, including pertinent positives and negatives, noted abnormalities and patient general condition. Submits orders for labs, radiology, prescriptions, etc. as directed by the attending physician. Assists in medical correspondence including, but not limited to consult letters, letters of patient necessity and clinical phone encounters as directed by the attending physician. Assists in the abstraction of clinical information into the EMR from outside sources as directed by the attending physician. Reviews charts prior to patients# scheduled appointment to assure that all requested lab work and diagnostic procedures have been completed and that reports have been returned and are accessible to the provider. Reviews charts for current medications, treatments, height, weight and problem list. Obtains and records patient vital signs, temperature, pulse, height, weight and blood pressure and reason for visit. Directs patients to examination rooms; assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients in undressing, dressing and getting on and off of the examination table. Notifies provider of patient#s arrival and readiness for their examination. Assists providers with patient examinations and procedures. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE # SKILLS Medical knowledge, including terminology, anatomy, physiology, behavioral science, and medical law and ethics. Administrative knowledge, including medical records management, collections and insurance processing. Clinical knowledge, including examination room techniques, vaccine administration, medication preparation and administration, pharmacology, radiology and laboratory procedures. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple members of the health care team. Strong English grammar. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Strong working knowledge of EPIC. Attention to detail. Ability to multi-task. Ability to obtain vital signs, such as pulse, blood pressure, temperature, height and weight. Knowledge of HIPPA policies. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required. Experience: Two years preferred.# Licensure: MA certification or registration required.#
