* POSITION SUMMARY

* Assists in the preparation and analysis of information relating to patient care reimbursement for EHS entities including the hospital, Visiting Nurse Association, and others. Assists in development of Medicare cost report and annual Medicare audit.

* KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Monitors payor reimbursement against contracted terms using hospital information system and through interaction with patient accounting staff. Follows discrepancies through process of resolution, and creates reports to show discrepancies, activities, and resolution.

* Prepares computation of third party contractual allowances, charitable care and bad debt for monthly financial statement presentation. Reviews and evaluates actual and budget variances as they relate to Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Healthsource and all other third party payors.

* Assists in the preparation of Medicare cost reports through data gathering, analysis, and input.

* Assists Manager in coordination of Medicare and Medicaid audits. Provides auditors with workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation for audit related inquiries.

* Monitors development of monthly logs and files as required by agreements with payors.

* Investigates and reports on current reimbursement developments on the state and federal level

* Participates in preparation of contractual allowance, charitable care, and bad debt sections of operating budgets for Elliot Hospital and other entities with patient revenues. Assists in development of other operating budgets as assigned.

* Provides reimbursement and payor analysis assistance to Director of Financial Development in areas of new or existing program financial analysis.

* Supports development of information requested by executive and departmental managers.

* REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

* Ability to plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of policies and procedures; work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet conditions, making decisions based on precedent and policy.

* Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.

* Knowledge of general accounting.

* Ability to operate microcomputer with appropriate spreadsheet and related software.

* Must possess analytical and problem solving skills.

* EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience required.

* Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required. Healthcare experience preferred.

* OTHER REQUIREMENTS

* Schedule: Generally Monday through Friday, day shift. Flexibility to accommodate work load.
