POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the surgeon during cesarean sections and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.# Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Performs activities which assist the patient in meeting basic human needs and activities of daily living, providing basic care to patients under the direction of the RN or LPN. # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program and be a Certified Surgical Technician, or obtain certification within six months from date of hire. Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role. # EXPERIENCE: Minimum six months experience required. # COMPETENCIES: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. In collaboration with surgical team, participates in activities to accomplish efficient room turnover including, cleaning of floor and furniture, removal of used equipment supplies instrumentation, providing appropriate equipment for next procedure. In collaboration with RN, demonstrates appropriate identification, handling, and processing of specimens. Demonstrates knowledge of and assures maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure; identifies and communicates, to surgical team, any breaks in technique and assists with corrective actions. Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team. Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes. Obtains signature on authorization form for all types of registration including Observations and Inpatients and explains all components of the form to the person signing. Performs other duties as assigned, to promote efficient functioning on the unit. Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to patient requests, including prompt acknowledgement to patient call bell. Works effectively with staff from various areas on interdepartmental issues. Transports patients safely to other department and upon admission and discharge, as necessary. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, coworkers and other members of the health care team. Answers telephone/intercom in a polite and timely manner and communicate accurate information to the appropriate personal/family. Performs competencies including, but not limited to, removal of saline lock, removal of foley catheter, pulse oximetry, glucose meter on adults and infants, phlebotomy, hearing screens, PKU/CF screens, transcutaneous bilirubin measurements, measuring intake and output, performing EKGS.
