Assistant Attorney General-Management / Environmental Protection Unit Direc

This position supervises the work of a Deputy Director, Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Associates. The selected candidate will provide a variety of legal services, through counsel and representation, to the Legislature, Governor, state agencies, and district attorneys. The selected candidate will enforce the statutes under the Attorney Generals jurisdiction.

The Environmental Protection Unit enforces state environmental laws by prosecuting violations referred to the Attorney General by environmental regulatory agencies or requested by district attorneys. Most environmental violations are referred by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This unit also defends challenges to state agency environmental decisions.

Special Notes: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOJ sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Justice will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOJ employees will be fingerprinted.

Qualifications: A minimally qualified candidate will have training, education, and/or work experience related to environmental law, litigation, and/or dispute resolution. A minimally qualified candidate will also have supervisory experience.

The preferred candidate will also have experience implementing strategic/management goals, and extensive professional experience working with natural resources or environmental cases.
