Summary

Operates, maintains, and repairs the heavier types of equipment.

Essential Functions

* Operate backhoes, rollers, front-end loaders, street sweepers, mowers, hydraulic pumps, jackhammers, and other equipment of comparable size and complexity;

* Maintain and repair heavy equipment, including hydraulic controls, belts, drive shafts, pumps, and motors;

* Drive dump trucks, crew trucks, and spreader trucks;

* Operate mechanical attachments and equipment on vehicles;

* Operate pickups and other light equipment when assigned;

* Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years experience in the operation and repair of motorized construction equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Physical Exam Required

Valid Current Class A Commercial Driver's License

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

* Operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.

Ability to:

* Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely;

* Perform repair and maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment, including; hydraulic controls, pumps, motors, driveshafts, and other mechanical systems;

* Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

* Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds

* Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds

* Walk and stand during shift

* Climb ladders, scaffolding stairs, poles and inclined surfaces

* Continuously push and pull objects

* Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees

* Frequently rotate upper trunk the right or left while sitting or standing

* Reach above, at or below shoulder height

* Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate motorized vehicles an machinery.
