Provides professional and technical assistance in representing Parks and Recreation Department plans and interests in the Developmental Review Center. In addition, duties shall include assisting with the development of master and site specific plans or designs for parks, open lands, trails, and facilities; assisting with development of site specific project components within parks, open lands, and trails; maintaining the Department's GIS and AutoCAD files, as well as preparation of construction contract documents and drawings for the Departments Capital Construction Program. This position may include project management, construction inspection and observation functions on renovation and/or construction projects to ensure contract compliance, as needed.

The salary range for this position is $22.26 - $33.41 hourly with an expected hiring range of $22.26 - $27.84 depending on qualifications and experience.

Our Position:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provides professional and technical abilities, skills and expertise to the department; participates in the Departmental review of proposed developments through the Developmental Review Center; assists in the preparation of graphics and mapping for the department; shall have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS associated with design, development and preparation of construction plans, specifications, bidding and record keeping for construction and renovation projects; assists in the planning and development of existing and future parks, open lands and trails; assist in the development, design and implementation of open lands site management, public access, and master plans; assist in the development of public outreach plans and programs to improve open lands signage and marketing. May also assist in grant writing and preparation for all departmental projects.

Provides information; responds to special requests with flexibility in a professional manner; and takes initiative to anticipate issues, problems, and resolve conflicts.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists with department projects and activities and performs other duties as assigned.

Must have knowledge of and ability to apply techniques, principles and practices of landscape architecture, planning and project construction. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and interact with co-workers, consultants, contractors, and the public. Demonstrated skills and abilities to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to make presentations to individuals or groups, as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with planning, zoning and development review process is preferred. Knowledge of and experience in the areas of construction practices, project management, and surveying skills. Ability to independently solve problems, communicate effectively, schedule and meet deadlines, and provide fiscal responsibility. Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, contractors and representatives of other governmental entities by employing effective interpersonal skills.

Education and/or experience:

Bachelor of Science or BA degree in Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering or closely related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

A minimum of four (4) years of responsible design, development review processing and/or design and construction management experience as a Park Planner or Project Designer required.

Must have working knowledge and ability to apply techniques and applications of Autodesk Map 3D or AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MS Project, MS Office Professional, Adobe Acrobat 9.3 Professional. Desktop publishing skills in Adobe Photo Shop or Illustrator are desirable.

Licensure and/or certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license. A current Colorado landscape architect license desired.

Working Environment and Required Background Checks:

Work is generally performed in an office environment and may require some bending and kneeling, sitting for extended periods of time, reaching and repetitive keyboard motion. Outdoor field work may require incumbent to traverse different types of typographical conditions such as rocky or sloping terrain. Moderate physical activity required by moving and positioning objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. May be exposed to long periods of sitting or standing at a computer station, extreme weather conditions in the field and risks associated with construction sites.
