In this role you will

  • assist laboratory researchers in molecular studies of vault ribonucleoprotein particles; be working under close supervision and with daily instruction
  • perform standard molecular techniques that include purification of DNA, RNA and protein, PCR, transfection, transformation, tissue culture, yeast, and bacterial cultures
  • perform electrophoresis of nucleic acids and proteins by various methods, including: agarose; polyacrylamide; SDS-PAGE, Northern, Southern and Western blotting
  • be trained to make yeast constructs, yeast strains, yeast growth and purification of proteins
  • organize, collect, and process experimental data
  • perform miscellaneous assays/ techniques including, but not limited to, protein (BCA assays), DNA/RNA quantitation, and solution preparation
  • dispose of chemical and biohazardous waste handling

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have the skill and ability to

  • collect, process, and analyze experimental data
  • maintain accurate scientific records
  • perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize responsibilities
  • cultivate yeast and bacteria; transfections, transformations and DNA isolation
  • perform PCR reactions, restriction digests, SDS-PAGE, gel electrophoresis, protein/RNA isolation, and bacterial transformations
  • cut, clone, purify and insert DNA into vectors
  • perform mini preps and plasmid preparations

We are seeking a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Science or basic Molecular Biology and Biochemistry knowledge, and with experience in a University environment. Our ideal candidate will have accurate communication skills, and have working knowledge and experience in the following:

  • growing and maintaining tissue culture lines
  • tissue culture/sterile technique
  • Molecular Biology
  • DNA and RNA purification
