Software Engineer - Performance and Kernel Engineering

The Performance and Kernel Engineering team at Verizon Digital Media Services provides key functions that constantly elevate the performance of the Content Delivery Network (CDN). Team members work very closely with network, system and development resources to solve performance related issues that could impact 10% of the Internet's traffic. this team is mandated to be owners of these key deliverables:

* Research and develop strategies to decrease service latency (e.g application, kernel network stack, and device IO) while ensuring predictable consistent performance

* Identify system bottlenecks and take the lead on resolving those issues

* Identify capacity constraints and work to resolve them

* Write, review and maintain code for internal hardware and software testing and benchmarking workflows

* Hands-on debugging of complex systems issues in production

* Collaborate and troubleshoot with other platform and development teams

Minimum Qualifications

* Knowledge and experience in protocols (e.g. TCP, UDP, IP, HTTP, and DNS)

* Debugging functional and performance issues through interpretation of packet captures and kernel traces

* Experience with low-level Linux subsystems (e.g. cgroups, networking, filesystems, and scheduling) in an SMP environment.

* Programming capabilities in C/C++, Python, Perl or Go

* Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-function teams

Preferred Qualifications

* BS or higher in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent work experience

* Knowledgeable in ensuring quality and building release and testing environments for kernels, modules, and/or driver

* Experience in designing, developing, and/or maintaining Linux kernel, modules, and/or drivers in an x86-64 environment

* Experience with latest Linux kernel technologies (e.g. eBPF, XDP, and DPDK)
