T32 Research Fellow - Bergman Lab - Diabetes & Obesity

The Bergman Laboratory in the Cedars-Sinai Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute is hiring a NIH/NHLBI T32-supported research fellow position! Dr. Richard Berman's lab studies the relationships between obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes.

As a Research Fellow, you will work independently but in close cooperation and consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists to perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. You may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols, analyze and interpret data, assist in preparation of grant proposals, and participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.

Department Specific Duties:

  • Data interpretation and analysis, and troubleshooting in areas of biochemistry, cell culture, RNAi, in vivo techniques, microscopy imaging
  • May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols
  • Designs and performs experiments
  • Keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator
  • Attendance and participation required at lab meetings and conferences
  • Presentation and dissemination of research through oral presentations at internal and external meetings and writing original research articles for publication in scientific journals
  • Participation in training of laboratory technical staff and junior lab members
  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals but is not responsible for generating grant funds
  • Work with large animals and help with surgical procedures as needed
  • Help PI write IACUC study protocols

Educational Requirements:

  • Doctorate Degree (MD or PhD)

Experience and Expertise:

  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment
  • Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment
