Law Firm Technology Architect / Lead Developer  - Los Angeles, CA

The Technology Architect will work with our executives, including the Chief Innovation Officer, and our lawyers to identify, innovate, build, and manage cutting-edge legal services solutions. The Technology Architect will be expected to be a thought leader in legal technology innovation, as well as in the application of emerging and cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning, data analytics, and cloud technologies.  They will be required to work independently, interact effectively with partners and executive management, and successfully manage their team and projects.



Essential Responsibilities: 



  • Work with Product Owners/Business Analysts/ Attorneys to understand business, functional, and non-functional requirements and interact with other cross-functional teams to architect, design, develop, test, and release features.

  • Provide architectural assessments, strategies, and roadmaps for identified client service innovations.




  • Present ideas and recommendations to key Firm, Innovation, Technology, and Practice leaders, support these recommendations, and build consensus. 

  • Lead all aspects of resulting projects, including technology identification, acquisition and deployment, UI design, build and test, security, and access provisioning.

  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical staff; excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Develop, communicate, and measure the business impact using metrics related to potential client service innovations, providing a basis for prioritizing and approving projects.

  • Work in close collaboration with the corporate IT team in areas such as security protocols, application integrations, training, and product support.

  • Where appropriate, drive common vision, practices, and architectures across Firm's Labs initiatives. 

  • Stay abreast of the legal technology landscape, as well as emerging technologies overall, and bring relevant technologies to bear on Firm's Labs projects.

  • Build the Firm's Labs team, including needed team members to drive the application, data, infrastructure and security architecture. 

  • Identify, qualify and engage external talent providers who can be tapped for additional and flexible capacity and skills as required. Maintain and adjust these relationships on an on-going basis.

  • Mentor and provide direction to the other Labs team members, assess their performance, and provide appropriate feedback.






Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related area from accredited college or university.

  • At least 7 years of experience with architect and developing web applications.

  • At least 5 years of experience leading an application development team.

  • Significant experience building applications for legal or professional services companies preferred.

  • Extensive C# and .Net development experience required.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and general database programming.

  • Knowledge of and experience building upon cloud-based services, such as AWS, MS Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Working knowledge of emerging technologies such as machine learning and distributed ledger technology strongly preferred.

  • Solid understanding of security and proven examples of projects where security and data privacy were fundamental concerns.

  • Knowledge and experience in developing software using agile methodologies.

  • Evidence of leading multiple projects through the overall software development cycle, including justification, architecture development, design, build and test, training, and support.

  • Ability to develop and cultivate strong professional working relationships with diverse colleague groups.

  • Ability to engender motivation and confidence in the Firm's Labs team and all members of the firm.

  • Broad experience across numerous technology stacks and processes

  • Solid understanding of UI and Mobile development; experience working with product teams/owners to translate business requirements to technical requirements

  • Due to the nature of the position, some travel (~10%) to practice offices and to the Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV will be required.
