The Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA is a large program encompassing extensive activities in patient care, research and education. Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will serve as the Lab Assistant for clinical and translational research studies in the UCLA Neurosurgical Brain Mapping and Restoration Lab. This position serves as the research coordinator for the various studies and also supports other clinical trials. This individual will also work interactively with other labs and research coordinators throughout the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery. All of these efforts require having or acquiring detailed knowledge of medical records and experience with the utilization of electronic medical records (specifically EPIC – CareConnect) to obtain, create and monitor clinical information for research purposes. Additional responsibility include image analysis, collection and analysis of data related to neurorestorative procedures, and retrospective chart reviews.

Qualifications

Ability to prioritize workload when faced with multiple tasks.

Verbal and composition skills to convey detailed medical information.

Working knowledge of PC including the following software: Microsoft Office

Ability to perform with frequent interruptions.

Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint

Completion of at least 2 years of medical school

Demonstrating leadership and organizational skills

Experience using electronic medical records (EPIC preferred)

Fluency in the usage of WebIRB submissions, renewals, and modification of protocols and managing registries

Prior administrative or clinical research experience

Prior basic knowledge of imaging modalities and sequences (i.e. CT/MRI)

Prior programming skills (i.e. Matlab/C++)

Knowledge of clinical or basic science research techniques

Background in neuroscience or engineering

Experience with coordinating multiple clinical trials (able to prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines)
