Interface with appropriate shift supervisory personnel from each external agency, internal division, and campus partner served by the Communications Center to assure quality of service and to deal with current operational problems. Perform the function of a Dispatcher. Oversee and conduct the training of Dispatchers on assigned shifts, and provide periodic reviews of trained Dispatchers. Assist the Communications Manager with assuring the smooth and efficient operation of dispatching personnel, systems and hardware to meet the emergency response needs of UCLA, its community, and associated property and personnel. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 6:00 am Shift End: 6:00 pm Qualifications for Position

Possess all skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the Public Safety Dispatcher position.

Required

Demonstrated skill in supervision (at the Lead, Trainer or Supervisor level), including the ability to train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate communications personnel.

Required

Ability to communicate in oral and written form to give direction, train, explain, and/or represent the Communications Center in the role of a Supervisor.

Required

Detailed current (within most recent 2 years) knowledge of relevant federal, state, system, and departmental laws, rules, guidelines, practices, and terminology regarding police dispatching, sufficient to train, supervise and evaluate dispatching personnel, and explain to, instruct, and counsel police personnel.

Ability to delegate tasks and duties on a situational or long term basis to better organize workflow and accomplish objectives in an efficient manner.

Required

Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of hostility, distraction, and emergent circumstances to provide calm, reasoned, and efficient leadership and service under stress.

Required

Ability to respond to and resolve difficult and/or sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints in a manner that adheres to legal requirements and departmental policy while providing excellent customer service.

Required

Confirmed knowledge (through possession of California POST Public Safety Dispatcher training certificate) of CA Police Officer Standards and Training basic Public Safety Dispatcher skills.

Preferred

At least 5 years of active experience performing the duties of a Police Dispatcher or higher level position in a Police Dispatch Center.

Required

Basic knowledge of English language, math, and other analytical skills as evidenced by possession of a high school degree, GED, or equivalent, to be able to transcribe information, produce reports, analyze situations and potential outcomes and interact with an educated client base.
