POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Director, Counsel will provide advice in diverse areas relating to employment and human resources matters, risk management, litigation, regulatory investigation and compliance (preferably FDA and/or FTC) . Experience with direct sales and international commercial issues a plus.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

* Counsel Human Resources department with employee relations and policy issues and assist with training

* Assist with the management of commercial, employment, regulatory, and general business litigation, including discovery and coordination with outside counsel

* Issue and monitor compliance with litigation holds, e-discovery and document retention

* Assist with responding to subpoenas and garnishments.

* Assist Risk Management department with insurance issues.

* Assist legal department projects and initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills:

* Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, and work closely with client groups at a strategic planning phase to help guide structure and outcomes to achieve business objectives.

* Proficient MS Office skills.

* Ability to proactively and independently solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision.

* Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.

* Ability to perform in a results-based environment.

* Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity.

* Ability to function as an effective team member, both within the legal department and the group of clients we serve.

* Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.

Experience:

* 5-8 years at a law firm working closely with client groups to achieve business objectives, or in house position preferably with consumer products or manufacturing company.

* Member of the California bar.

Education:

* J.D. from ABA accredited law school

* B.A.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Top 25% class standing preferred
