Job description

The primary responsibility of the Air Export Gateway Supervisor is the effective coordination and supervision of the LAX Gateway day to day operation, ensuring operational excellence, high productivity and customer satisfaction. This position requires a Tuesday through Saturday work week

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the desk level, day-to-day operations of the department
• Responsible for ensuring highest quality and accuracy of gateway objectives including but not limited to: consolidation processing, airline bookings, rates, accruals, documentation and accounting
• Achieve maximum consolidation benefits (through ULD build-up, consolidation mix, ad-hoc rates)
• Work closely with warehouse management to ensure that all cargo is handled and processed properly, and to ensure timely delivery to the airline
• Ensure all carrier allocations are maintained within prescribed guidelines
• Build strong & maintain productive relationships with airlines and internal customers
• Closely monitor carrier performance and resolve any service irregularities
• Act as gateway subject matter expert and train employees on gateway procedures
• Ensure total compliance with all operational procedures and government regulations
• Effectively deal with any issues that arise within scope of responsibility
• Interact and collaborate closely with the air export teams in the US-West region
• Work with the Gateway Manager to continually review all routings in order to assist in identifying opportunities for service enhancements and/or cost improvement
• Manage the financial accounting responsibilities of the Gateway in coordination with the department manager
• Hold regular meetings to discuss operation issues and ideas for improvement of the gateway operations
• Evaluate staff performance on a regular basis.


• Maintain & review data quality elements to ensure KPI targets are met
• Shipment data review to maximize routings and optimization
• Review daily workload to ensure the departmental and company goals are achieved
• Maintain, review, and update the organization of flight schedules and contract pricing
• Manage Air Export Gateway daily accounting requirements by acknowledging and ensuring billing is done on time and or delegated to direct reports, as needed
• Work on File Status (FSL) on a daily basis and analyze loss files to ensure proper billing or rate adjustments with carriers as needed
• Assist in the interview and hiring process as and when needed
• Other duties as assigned by the department manager

Your skills and experience

• 5+ years of experience in air freight/gateway preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
• In depth knowledge with export operations/procedures highly preferred
• Good knowledge of MS Office applications
• Solid knowledge of airports and world geography
• Expertise in ULD build-up and warehouse operations
• Ability to work in high stress, fast moving environment
• Ability to effectively manage other individuals
• Ability to be profit conscious
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to operate in a global environment
• Self-managing and pro-active
• Ability to create and work in a team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
