Professor of Materials Joining Engineering and Engineering Technology

The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position for fall and spring semesters, with the possibility of summer school and online teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays, but will include some evening classes, independent studies, as well as some online responsibilities. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities include classroom and laboratory-based teaching and research in the Materials Joining Engineering and Engineering Technology concentrations, advising students and serving on various university committees. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching in Joining Processes, Welding Procedure Development, Welding Engineering Design, and Welding Metallurgy. Teaching responsibilities may include both on-site and on-line delivery methods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate engineering education including laboratory instruction. Desired areas of expertise include welding process development, welding metallurgy, welding inspection and qualification, and advanced manufacturing, including automation and additive manufacturing. Of special interest are candidates with the ability to teach joining methods, weld design, manufacturing processes, robotics, and non-destructive testing in a laboratory setting. Candidates must hold a B.S. degree in Materials, Welding, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and a graduate degree (M.S. minimum) in Welding/Metallurgical/Materials Engineering. Industrial experience is highly desirable. Successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of outstanding potential in undergraduate teaching.
