Purpose Statement / Position Summary

The UM Assistant is responsible for a variety of UM department support activities. Is pro-active and independent in gathering demographic, medical, and benefit information as needed and presenting data in an articulate and legible manner. Provides the first line of telephonic response for incoming calls in the UM department and provides excellent customer service. Demonstrates a willingness to learn, participate, share and be a team player for the overall success of the department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

* Assists department staff with daily operational functions and clerical duties

* Is pro-active and independent in gathering information as needed

* Presents data in an articulate and legible manner

* Provides excellent customer service

* Communicates effectively with a professional attitude

* Be responsible and accountable for all assignments and deliverables

* Demonstrate a willingness to learn, participate share and be an overall part of the team


* Minimum one (1) year experience in managed health care, hospital or physician's office.

* Knowledge of medical terminology.

* Customer service preferred.

* Computer experience: Microsoft Office.

* Excellent verbal and written communication.

* Spanish preferred.


* High School diploma or GED equivalent.

* AA desired
