The salary range for this classification is $3,515 to $5,993 per month.


College of Health and Human Services and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Appointment Dates

Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Time Base/Hours/Units per Week

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Some nights and weekends are required.

Position Description

The Communications and Public Relations Coordinator is a shared position between the College of Health and Human Services (.5 FTE) and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (.5 FTE) and is under the general direction of the Dean in each college for his/her respective time-base.

For CHHS, the Communications Specialist writes, updates, and systematically maintains college and department web site content; writes and maintains college social media; writes, edits, and disseminates the college newsletter; writes and edits content for college print and online publications; assists in the planning and implementation of college events; and other duties as assigned.

For CNSM, the person in this position develops and maintains a pipeline to facilitate CNSM faculty departments, centers, programs to reporting of accomplishments, events, and other pertinent information for the college's public relations; writes and edits copy to be used for various purposes in the college, including the college newsletter, the CNSM Website, and various social media accounts.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent writing and editing abilities for news, creative, and feature formats. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sound understanding of communications and media relations. Strong working knowledge and understanding of the academic world. Skills using social media, website content management tools, desktop publishing and graphics software required. Punctuality, attendance, and dependability expected. Ability to provide excellent customer service in a busy office environment. Ability to maintain confidentially of sensitive information. .

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field, and three years of related professional or technical experience in media, communications, and/or public relations functions required. Experience in event planning, marketing, and communications desired.


Skills testing to be given at the time of the interview.
