Quality & Reliability Engineer

Work involves functioning as technical liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning and provide technical support. Applies diversified knowledge of quality engineering principles and practices to produce and or coordinate the solutions to complex problems. Considerable creativity and initiative is required. Independent judgment is normally required with some direction from the supervisor. Implement and monitor advanced quality planning with selected future product suppliers

* Assure supplier understanding of product and submission requirements

* Review manufacturing processes and quality systems

* Implement and monitor the part qualification certification process with selected suppliers

* Provide technical support to customers during start up activities

* Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality issues and to provide technical support

* Determine cause of quality problems and coordinate/implement effective and timely resolutions

* Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support as required

* Maintain required documentation and files

* Determine part critical characteristics and required process controls

* Review tool, fixture and part design

* May participate as member or resource to product development teams

* Regularly exchange information with others inside and outside the work group including GM and supplier facilities

Basic Skills Required:

* Hands on experience in manufacturing and knowledge to build quality parts

* Highly proficient in print reading and interpretation and part measurement

* Demonstrated knowledge of geometric design and tolerance and gage design and function

* Demonstrated thorough knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments

* Demonstrated thorough knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, facilities and equipment

* Demonstrated thorough knowledge of corporate and division supplier quality standards, policies, and procedures

* Highly proficient oral and written communication skills

* Very high level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution where problems are complex

* Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from supervisor

Preferred Requirements:

* Technical background/degree (ME, EE, etc) or relevant experience

* Quality system / statistical background

* Overall Flexibility due to frequent plan changes driven by unforeseen current quality issue

* Ability to travel

Education and Training:

* Experience in manufacturing, quality or engineering

* Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering or equivalent experience/training. Desirable course work would include probability and/or statistics

* Proficiency as a Quality Engineer or equivalent
