Technical Support Analyst Full-Time

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under the direct supervision of the Sr. System Administrator, this position performs a variety of skilled and technical work associated with installation, use, and upgrades of the District's communication systems, computer hardware and software, including personal computers, copiers, printers, servers, modems, phones, etc. The position provides support to users by troubleshooting and resolving technical problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Provide day-to-day maintenance of computer equipment by installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing computer equipment and software problems.

* As the first point of contact, monitor and answer helpdesk phone during business hours and respond accordingly.

* Create user network and email accounts; troubleshoots problems with accounts, network rights, and hardware; performs updates and backups as needed.

* Provide a variety of hardware repair functions. Diagnose, repair and/or replace memory, hard drives, etc. Pull cable, locate and relocate PCs, printers and other hardware.

* Install software to initialize PCs, upgrades, patches, and revisions. Regularly checks for and conducts virus updates and distribution to servers and workstations.

* Provide troubleshooting, problem analysis assistance and instruction to staff with computer problems remotely or at the user's workstation; determines user needs; recommends and implements solutions to ensure minimum delay and effective operation for system users.

* Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting copiers and printers and other peripherals.

* Maintain records for software, hardware (both loaned out and permanently installed), maintenance schedules, and licensing as required for efficient IS operation and compliance to copyright or other laws.

* Stay current with technologies applicable to District use. Demonstrate mastery in software usage and the ability to teach it to others.

* Provide backup for I Sr. System Administrator, tasks including network and systems monitoring and general server maintenance.

* Responds to off duty hours for emergencies while on on-call rotation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

* Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field and two (2) years of work experience in computer hardware and software repair and maintenance, network/system administration or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and years of experience in the field.

* Requires a high level of knowledge of computer hardware and software including Windows Operating Systems (Windows 7 and above), Microsoft Office Suite (2016 and above). Must have a working knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite. Ability to troubleshoot network and wireless issues including laptops and other portable devices. Ability to maintain remote access using Windows VPN via wireless hotspots from Verizon.

* Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems (2008 and above) including Active Directory and user/computer management. Ability to work with Windows Server Update Services for desktop patching and reporting for patch installation errors and warnings.

* Requires a high level of knowledge of printers (directly connected or network) and other peripherals such as scanners and multifunction devices (scanner/fax/copier/printer).

* Basic knowledge of VoIP phone systems/phones preferred.

* Basic knowledge of VMware virtual environments preferred.

* Experience with Microsoft Exchange mailbox/user administration preferred.

* Experience and basic knowledge of Group Policy preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

* Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:

* Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment (computer, copier, fax, phone, etc.). Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

* Knowledge of computers systems, printers and networks and the ability to maintain such systems.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

95% of the work is performed indoors in a busy office type environment where noise and interruptions prevail. Occasional environmental conditions encountered include noise, fumes, odors, and dust. Requires the ability to drive between various locations and occasionally transport supplies during the performance of the job duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Most work is performed indoors in a busy office where noise and interruptions prevail. Must be able to frequently sit and occasionally walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Manual dexterity is needed to operate PC and other office equipment. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift / move a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted; and lift / move a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. Requires the ability to express and receive both oral and written communication.
