Blue Apron's Packaging & Innovation Team isresponsible for the physical touch-point of the Blue Apron experience. The teamtackles complex challenges across the organization and is made up of designers,engineers, researchers, food scientists, and strategists. We're a lean, tight-knit,and empathetic bunch

who work collaboratively with other departments at BlueApron to drive our vision for incredible user experiences.


As a key member of the Blue Apron's PackagingInnovation team, the Associate Food Scientist will support execution of alltest methods and lead the shelf life improvement work flow. An ideal candidatewill set up labs, systems and tools for analysis of food and packaginginteraction, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a sound and safepackaging system.


* Support the testingfunction to validate and qualify packaging systems

* Coordinate and preparesamples for all packaging test procedures

* Develop shelf lifetesting protocols for new and existing packaging/food combination systems

* Support R&D functionfor shelf life and quality improvement

* Work with external labsto conduct analytical and accelerated aging tests

* Collaborate with BlueApron's food safety and quality teams to simulate ingredient testing

* Develop tools toquantify shelf life and sensory attributes for packaged food ingredients

* Develop and maintain atechnical library of packaging/food interaction to facilitate packagingselection

* Set up a packaging testlab and maintain related calibration records

* Support testing inmanufacturing plants to scale up concepts tested in the lab


* BS in Food Science, Nutrition or related field

* Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in CPG food industry with focuson shelf life, test execution and scientific analysis

* Must be flexible to work in late night or early am schedules basedon the need of test start/end schedules

* R&D, culinary or product development experience is a plus

* Ability to comprehend complex technical articles,research papers, or presentations, and apply technical knowledge learned fromsuch sources

* Demonstratestrong analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills

* Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work effectively ina fast-paced environment
